Jorge must be busy, because there’s a brand new update to Winstep Extreme and to Nexus Extreme.

I decided to check because I haven’t been to the Winstep Beta Forums in awhile.

Winstep Extreme is a superb collection of utilities and desktop enhancements, Winstep Xtreme will change the way you work with Windows forever.

Winstep Extreme and Nexus (all packages) work flawlessly with Object Desktop.

Read more about it, Nexus and Nexus Ultimate at Winstep.net

The Winstep Nexus Dock is a FREE professional dock for Windows. With Nexus, your most frequently used applications are only a mouse click away - and Nexus turns working with your computer into a fun and exciting experience. Nexus Ultimate is an enhanced version of the free-to-use Nexus dock which is available stand-alone or as a component of Winstep Xtreme (a single easy-to-install package featuring all of Winstep's popular desktop enhancement products for Windows).

So, all you Winsteppers (and prospective Winsteppers) head out to Winstep.net and update or learn more abpout this powerful skinning and customizing program!

I got a subscription to Winstep Extreme this year so I'm new to it.  You don't get an email letting you know of update?

Oops, I see that it's a beta release, that might be why.

EDIT:  I see that I needed to register for the beta forums, did that, now just waiting.

Also, if you open Winstep, the update notification should appear, Philly. Visit the Forums there. Very germane to Winstep itself, and you learn a heck of a lot about the software that way too.

Note that Winstep Beta's are by invite only.

Thanks Doc!

Welcome, Jim.

Does this mean the free version is also updated or is that too in beta? I ask because the one I have is acting a bit funky.

on Feb 27, 2011

No, it isn't as far as I know. If it's not ok, uninstall it and reinstall. There may be a newer free build up, but I can't say for sure.

on Feb 27, 2011

Thanks Doc.    Have that checked.

Nope. No new builds. I'll see if I can fix the one I got.

Betas announced in the Beta section of the Winstep forums are *private* betas, not public, available to registered Winstep users only who follow the procedure to access the private section of the forums. That's why you get no notification from the Winstep Update Manager even if 'Notify me of beta versions' is selected.

Anyway, the official release should be available sometime this week, and it will be v11.2. There will be new versions for Nexus free, Nexus Ultimate, Winstep Xtreme and the Winstep Start Menu Organizer.

Jorge, will the new skinning engine be in it?

Then what's the 'functionality' of that choice in the config, Jorge?

Not yet, unfortunately, but the good news is that I'm activelly working on it (the 'Winstep Theme Builder' application), and using THIS new theme (not yet released) to test it.

Other good news is that the new Winstep Xtreme/Nexus Ultimate User Guides are nearly ready too (150+ pages each). The new User Guides won't be shipping with the applications themselves because they're huge 9 MB+ PDF files (for now in English and German versions only) but, once they are ready, clicking the Help button on the application will re-direct you to a page on the Winstep web site from where you will be able to either a) read them online or b ) download a program which will install the User Guide (in the language you selected from the list of available languages) onto your computer.

For betas I decide should go public, which are few and far between.

I'll be waiting on the new free version. Who knows what the future might hold though. I once did the trial version awhile ago and thought it was great. BTW .... did the uninstall and re-install. Working.

To Dr. JBHL...

I saw this in the Forum the other day. I had never tried the program before and when I did I just loved it and got it. Thank you for putting this in the Forum I really like this program. It's just hard to learn it.
