That's a pretty weak list of "Must Haves".
I agree with that. Among these, I've only ever needed VLC.

PoSmedley
This isn't so much a utility as it is a script based on Stylish's themes. You can enter this into Firefox and turn ANY webpage into a dark, glassy vista style page. Truly amazing and hurts nothing.

Vista Dark Glass Script

umm.  Rick Astley.  WTF?

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is an anti-malware application that can thoroughly remove even the most advanced malware.

Nice to run once a week or whenever you wish.

 Malwarebytes

Hello all,

Thanks for the great utilities.

Does anyone know of a fast and comprehensive substitute/alternative for Windows 7-64bit Indexing? I don't like how indexing excludes parts of the hard drive and the sluggish rebuilding of fequently accseced directories.

Don't forget if you have MalwareBytes to update the definitions at least every other day. Every time I open mine up it tells me my definitions are out of date. Last time was seven days.

Who's Astley?

He's a wanna-be singer who got kicked out of the Deep Purple auditions (when they were looking for a new vocalist after Ian Gillan) for looking too much like a red-headed poof

Down in Oz, too.... if you got a half decent funny bone

Now back to business.....

SUPERAntispyware is one I've recently found to be quite effective against the nasties on the net.  The only [small] issue is a splash screen at startup if you have it loaded in the systray... but it only lasts a few seconds and is relatively unobtrusive.

Spybot Search and Destroy... not just for the spyware scanner, but for the teatimer component which immunizes your system against internet nasties in real time... nips 'em in the bud before they can get in.  Also on the Spybot site are other utilities for manual searches of files and the registry... a file analyser and a bootable CD for files that cannot be clean while the system is running.

DVD Profiler.... for cataloging your DVD collection with cover pics, plot synopsis and cast lists, etc.  It is shareware and the paid version offers more options, but the free version is still quite useful, especially if you have a large collection.

Iobit's Smart Defrag ... is one of the best defraggers out there.  It has 3 defrag options [Standard, Optimize and Deep Optimize] and keeps HDD's running at optimal performance.
