Ramblings of an old Doc

Microsoft’s Kinect has been awarded The National Parenting Center’s 2011 Seal of Approval recommending it for age 6 and up.

The National Parenting Center was founded in July of 1989 with the intention of providing the most comprehensive and responsible parenting advice to parents everywhere.

Unless you live in a cave it is pretty hard to avoid the crush of media coverage for Microsoft’s newest baby, the Kinect for Xbox. Hype can be a blessing or a curse, living up to expectations is a road filled with potholes. So, does Kinect connect? You betcha! We have never seen anything like it and neither have you. We all marveled when the revolutionary Wii was introduced, and rightfully so. Be prepared to be marveled again. Like the Wii, activity and movement are the key to the experience, but this time there are no controls apart from your body. What does this mean for you and your children? No more couch potato-ing, you’ve got to get up and move, immerse yourself in game play like never before and we assure you, you will. There are only a few titles on the market at the time of this writing, but there will be many, many more in the months to come.

As a Physician, Doc likes this a great deal.

The advice provided is furnished by some of the world’s most respected authorities in the field of child rearing and development.

Let me diverge.... I feel enormous pride about Windows XP, Windows NT (and all that came from NT), Windows 7, Intel's processor, cell phones, chat clients like AIM, mIRC, phone cams, Incredimail...the list is, in itself, incredible.

Why do I?

I do because they, among so many things are the gift Israel has given this world.

I, like Israel was born in 1947. I attended Medical School, served in the Israel Defense Forces, met my late wife and started my family there. I lived there for thirteen years.

It’s a great feeling when one of your kids grows up and becomes an adult.

They’re out on their own in the big bad world. You hope and pray they’ll be able to meet the challenges that come their way. And you watch with pride as they take their place in society, building their own homes, and raising their families.

So, when the technology developed by Israel's Primesense officially left its nest and began to make its way in the world, I sent my blessings and good wishes to the final version of the company’s 3D sensing device, now officially called Microsoft Kinect (formerly called Project Natal). It's already given Microsoft a great 2010.
