Ramblings of an old Doc
TinEye in right click menu
Published on December 11, 2010 By DrJBHL In Personal Computing

I love finding wallpapers. I love popping up with one to match new skins. I haunt wall sites and have several I check almost everyday.

I also like Firefox (as many do....and also Opera) especially for this new extension I found. Everyone knows or should know about TinEye (http://www.tineye.com/), a site you upload an image to and find it's location on the net.

Well, now you won't have to do that. It's enough to right click on the Image and TinEye image search will appear in the menu and you merely have to choose the option on the menu!

After clicking on the selection, the results appear in a new tab:

Looks to me like a great time saver and tool to check location of images on the web, and verify they are "usable". In my example, I deliberately chose on that's not without paying for it and demonstrates this tool can be used to make sure you're abiding by all the rules! It'll also help you verify the "originality" of the image you're searching. Make sure to check the TOU for any image you decide on, and Stardock's Policy re submissions.

This tool is great and couldn't be simpler to obtain....free! Check the external link.

Now, you know I'm going to sneak in something about iPhones or iPads... well, how about Google Goggles (not the email one).

This app allows you to take a pic of say, a wallpaper and Google Goggles will search the web fast and you'll get image locations the same way as with TinEye, but without a computer and browsers.

Its available in the App store. Free. Also available for the Android phone.

Looks like this:

For all to enjoy!

Do you have any ideas, suggestions or resources for me? Please pm!

Nice! I had no idea tineye did that, I always used custom sites to search for my images but it's obviously a hassle to download a picture manually just to upload it again.

Question: does it work with porn?

Pretty cool PC Doc. You know me ...... gotta try stuff. I went and installed it and just out of curiosity clicked on Tineye. 250 milliseconds it took for 6 results. Gonna be a lot of image searching I think once more people find it. Thanks Doc.

I've been using Tineye for years. It is the best way I know of checking to see if any artwork/walls of myself or others are ripped .   A really great tool Doc, thanks for posting this!!!

Doesn't the bolded read that Stardock will be responsible for the support of the upload? Did someone proof read that?

That should be changed to the following to be worded correctly.

Under no circumstances will Stardock be responsible for the support of your upload.

In this bit there is a double negative:

"By uploading content, you agree to accept the responsibility of supporting your upload. Stardock, under no circumstances, will not be responsible for the support of your upload, nor will Stardock provide support for any upload not produced directly by Stardock."

"Stardock, under no circumstances, will not be responsible..."

Stardock may want to change that.   You know how technical that legal stuff can be.

Best regards,
Steven.

True, but the intent is clear. Betcha ZubaZ typed that one.

It is a mute point...until Stardock gives us back the ability to delete an upload, they are at least partially responsible for the support of our uploads.

You just exceeded my pay grade.

I agree %100 with you. The word is "Moot" though. I too would like to see the delete function put back. If I upload something and make a mistake I have to change it right away so it doesn't pass moderation as it was. Whereas I could have have done it in the morning as opposed to 2:00 a.m.
