Ramblings of an old Doc

And it’s an exe…portable, doesn’t require installation, but does require you to disconnect from a network and the net while scanning, to avoid false positives. Size: 26 mb.

Also, it won’t detect every program known to man…so if you think you’re being surveilled, check the screenies to see where to get more help.

Generally, journalists and bloggers use the tool routinely, and it was developed by the Amnesty International, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Digitale Gesellschaft and Privacy International groups.

“It needs to be started with elevated rights, which can be done with a right-click on the program and the selection of run as administrator after download.  The application is compatible with Windows XP SP3 as well and you can run it with a simple double-click on systems running this version of Windows.” – gHacks

Version 1.1 is out now which has fewer false positives. Also, it reportedly doesn’t work with W8.1 x64. It works with every other Windows OS, however. Also, It’ll set off BitDefender, so you’ll have to ‘whitelist’ it. I don’t know about other AVs.

Good news (probably):

Just remember, not finding anything doesn’t necessarily mean your computer is clean. If you suspect you’re being surveilled, there’s a link just down this page.

Bad news, definitely:

When the bad news is detected, it is recommended to go to https://www.resistsurveillance.org/emergency . Excellent advice is given there. If you believe you’re being surveilled, there are email links on that page as well.

Two email links are on that page to help you further.

The tool is free, and you can get it here: https://github.com/botherder/detekt/releases/tag/v1.1

Better turn off Skype, Steam, Spotify, any antivirus and Windows before running it though!

Philly...that's Heavenfall's brand of 'humor'.

The only thing it needs is for you to be disconnected from the net and any network, and to whitelist detekt.exe in your antiviral. OK?

I have checked it out, but it SEEMS  to NEED to write to the drive that it is on, which makes it less than ideal on media that is set to read only (for my antimalware/virus tools collection)
