Ramblings of an old Doc

Hankers sent me an interesting url this morning.

Gadgets were removed in W8 and while a partial Start Button made it back in W8.1,

Gadgets were not so lucky.

Now, apparently you can get them back and a sidebar as well: Link.

So, if you’re so inclined, mosey on over and take a look.

Please don't strain the fabric of the space-time continuum with claims of coincidence.

Since I don't have 8/8.1 I don't have a EULA. If the installer alters system files, it might void that. Hence the warning which I quoted. If you think that's ludicrous, that's your problem.

I will assume that's a joke. Because it was coincidence. If you don't believe that, then that's your problem.     Doc, you seem a bit hostile. I don't see why. I meant no offense.

But the idea of Microsoft voiding a "warranty" due to something I decide to install on my PC is ludicrous, regardless of who said it.

So ridiculous, in fact, that I'm suprised you repeated it.

Sensing your hostility, I will exclude myself from further comment on this thread.

The spirit in this thread is strong but even you cannot hope to stand against;

The Legend of Cobra Cat!

and yes I know but they tell me as long as I stay on the meds I'm harmless

Not really.  There have been instances over the years where use of 'odd' software would see MS Support simply say 'tough tits...revert to original or you're out of luck'.

GUI modding has been rife with that....from simple reverse engineering of dll's to complete shell replacements...

we would need to know what it does.

either Microsoft left the whole platform in the code and this just removes the hotfix MS once provided due to "security concerns". then it would be legal (in the EU at least), but will void your warranty.

or this is coded from scratch. then it would be illegal if it would redistribute content copyrighted by MS (the default skins). i think this is the case. it would also be illegal if it would redistribute third-party gadgets without consent. but let's assume permissions have been given for those. the default skins are already enough to make it illegal. it wouldn't void your warranty though.

please note: i'm not saying you shouldn't use it. it's a shame MS killed this platform (for dishonest reasons).
