Ramblings of an old Doc

Apple started it, and there are genuine and phony Apple Stores from here to well, China. MS has them in many cities. Even Samsung has one in London.

Now, according to Seth Weintraub at 9to5Google, a high level source at Google has leaked that there will be Google Stores open for 2013’s holidays in major cities. There are now Google kiosks at retailers now to explain and demonstrate its products but actual sales are done by the chains themselves in the US and Britain.

So, what will they sell? Chromebooks and everything their online Nexus stores probably.

Google Glass (reported here and here) as well, likely.

There are probably many great ways to use them (think collaborating at work), but people will inevitably use them while driving or crossing streets. Maybe even while flying planes. Probably with the best of motives. Think “The staircase to hell…”.

Well, I still think it’s probably an inevitable (and undoubtedly expensive) way to cull the herd, but hey.

Just remember, states have laws about distracted driving and street crossing.

No one can “multitask”. No one.

Quoting LightStar, reply 14Blah... I don't buy at any of the current stores of this type, I certainly would not buy at Google.

Google Glasses.... opens up a whole world online

Thing is, you don't need such powerful spectacles to see that you don't need all that crap.

About sum it up?

Yup!

Yeah, and all that senseless violence/gunplay... 'tis a sickening reminder of what too often is reality

It looks like you must have missed Rowdy Roddy Piper in "They Live" back in the 80s.

Killing aliens is kinda like killing Zombies..senseless but entertaining.

Hehe, as you can see from my posts above, as well as others in the past, I like to take the piss [Mickey] out of Google and give /em a hard time.  It's not that I hate Google or anything, but it sure helps break the monotony and pass the time.  Apart from bankers, politicians and lawyers, I can't think of anyone I like to take the piss out of more.

Well there is car and real estate salesmen, I suppose.  They can be just as dishonest as bankers and politicians, I guess, so we'll lump them in there as well.

Querstion: why didn't the politicians pass laws after the GFC to send more bankers to the pen for dishonest dealings?

Answer: too many parallels could be drawn and the precedent would have been set to send themselves up the river.

Update:

"Google launched pre-orders for Google Glass several months ago, but they were meant for developers and certain members of the media. They were also priced out of most people's reach at $1,500. While the price of getting a pre-order device has not gone down, Google announced a new way for more people to get access to the pre-production version with a new contest.

The contest is called "If I Had Glass" and asks people to write, in 50 words or less, what they would do if they got Google Glass. The entries must be posted on Twitter or Google+ with the hashtag #ifihadglass. Users can also upload pictures or even a short video to accompany their entry. The deadline is February 27th. If you are one of the people Google picks, you will not only have to purchase the $1,500 pre-production model but you must also attend an event to pick them the glasses up in New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles." - Neowin

Some contest.

And Google is gonna pay my airfare and Shaunna's from here to the States... and we'll pick up a pair each in each city... to get to see more of the country.

Yep... and you can bring up to five 'roos with you. There's a bridge for sale too....

There's a bridge for sale too....

I'll take that one up there in Alsaka.

They tell me it don't go anywhere, but there's a great view from the Northern parapet in Summer.

I'd probably sell it in Winter, though... cos it's dark for 6 months and they tell me the view's lousy.

Google Glasses... so realistic it's like really being there

Trouble is, that rally footage is gonna make you car sick.

Yeah, I suffer with vertigo... motion sickness without actually going anywhere, and watching that clip for a few moments really upset the apple cart.  Nope, it's not technolgy I'll be using.
