Ramblings of an old Doc

This one just might take over from CCleaner on my machine. Why?

Preston Gralla (PCWorld):

“This freebie does a neat job of cleaning out the Registry junk. It scans the Registry, flagging orphaned or bad Registry entries, and shows you the name and values for each. It identifies Registry entries that may be dangerous to delete, and those that are safe to delete, so you can distinguish between the two. It also lets you decide which entries to delete, and which to keep. For safety's sake, it can also back up your Registry before a scan, so that you can restore it, if the program causes any problems.”

--Preston Gralla (https://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,65607-order,4/description.html)

He didn’t mention (or it’s a new feature) that double clicking on a link will open it for editing or deleting.

Oh well. Who won, cc cleaner or wise.

Was not paying attention to dates, just call me stupid and move along. ! Thanks Jafo. Can we start a thread on how stupid people respond to antique posts. I have some thoughts on that!!!!

Well.....eleven months and eleven days ain't too bad. Was it 7 am or 7 pm. 7-11.......there's one of them right down the street.

Actually Uvah, it was like four am. Still sad though. We just got 7-11 back in my area. Left years ago. Now, they suck.

Only if we can have one about how antique people respond to stupid posts. I have some thoughts on that!!!

Hey! I resemble that!  .

Seriously, I've answered old posts too, without looking at the dates... so many of us have.

To the meat of the matter: Registry cleaners can be a blessing IFF (if and only if) you know what is being done, and what the proposed deletions relate to and whether or not that will louse up your machine.

MORE: You MUST make a registry backup and put it (as a file) on another machine or remote backup as well as on the machine you're tinkering with before doing any tinkering so you can fix thins. Setting a"restore point" isn't a bad idea either.

Any registry cleaner can wreck your machine. So, Unless you know what you're doing, don't do it!

Thanks Doc. I just wanted in on the comments. Do not have an preference either way. Yes , back ups, I hear you......

Thanks all for being good about my lack of attention to details such as dates. Your a great bunch, seriously.

Funny that Auslogics Registry Cleaner gets no mention here. Does a great job.

Figured I'd give this a spin... Their cleaner, or more likely their System Tuneup, has sped up my boot times a good deal. Mind you, I've had this rig going for over 3 years without a clean reinstall of Windows, and I'm certain that doesn't help one bit.
