Ramblings of an old Doc

Neowin announced this morning that Mozilla will be releasing Firefox 6.0 later today.

It was only in July that 5.0 was released. Numerous betas and ‘nightlies’ have been available since then.

What’s new?

The latest version of Firefox Beta has the following changes:

  • The address bar now highlights the domain of the website you're visiting
  • Streamlined the look of the site identity block
  • Added support for the latest draft version of WebSockets with a prefixed API
  • Added support for EventSource / server-sent events
  • Added support for window.matchMedia
  • Added Scratchpad, an interactive JavaScript prototyping environment
  • Added a new Web Developer menu item and moved development-related items into it
  • Improved usability of the Web Console
  • Improved the discoverability of Firefox Sync
  • Reduced browser startup time when using Panorama

No thanks..........Chrome all the way! Each to their own.......Firefucks was never my 'cup of tea'

tbh-chrome is insanely good. Firefox is a very good browser but isn't quite there yet..

E.g Making customers suffer by breaking there favorite plugins and extensions with each new early update.

I finally got around to installing FF5 alongside my FF3...oh man the memory leaks are awful and unacceptable. The wrapper was nicer and more compact and concise...but under the hood is a mess. I'm sticking with FF3 until they release a version with less leaks than the Titanic.

I also decided to try out Chrome because FF5 was irritating me, but Chrome is just too bland for me, not enough customizations.

Palemoon 6 seems to be just fine (as was 5), no memory leaks I've noticed, uses about same memory as IE (not that that's a good thing) and fewer handles.  I'm sure YMMV.

Firefox 7 here and working fine, seems to use same amount of memory at startup but it doesn't build up as much when you have been surfing for a while like it used so all in all it does use less memory.
