Ramblings of an old Doc

You can’t make this stuff up.

Just read at infopackets that J. Napolitano is strongly considering implementing the Terrorism Alert Warning system through Twitter and Facebook. Honestly….this is not a joke.

The United States government says it's considering replacing the old color-coded ratings ranging from "Low" to "Guarded" all the way up to "High" and "Severe".

From infopackets : “The report doesn't come to us from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), but instead the Associated Press, which says it recently learned DHS is considering April 27 as a start date for the new program.

The Facebook and Twitter updates would actually replace the existing color-coded system, which experts say has largely faded in popularity since it was first introduced shortly after September 11, 2001.”

I hope….seriously hope the AP got it wrong. I would be seriously concerned about fb/twitter security and the seriousness and importance of such warnings.

Besides, what’s wrong with the net/cable/T.V.?

Also, would you believe a DHS Terror Alert Warning coming through Twitter or Facebook (especially now that it’s gone open code???).

I’d believe that like I’d believe the emails from Nigeria….you know, these:

Life just keeps getting weirder…

The system died because of lack of use - by the feds

Or overuse...like people with car alarms that go off whenever a fly farts...it just become redundant and ignored.

But no less obnoxious.

I mean if one doesn't know that Al Qa'ida is plotting to do as much damage that it can manage to America (and everyone else it feels like) twitter isn't going to change that, and you're a hopeless maroon.

So, if the warning levels aren't meant to cause certain behaviors/actions, then what is their purpose? Clearly to engender fear and anger, and obedience to authority.

The worst thing I had to worry about at school was getting caught smoking... or caught sneaking into the girls showers on sports days (yep, I did that, and it was always a giggle because the female sports teacher was always in their locker room 9just not in the showers] yet I never got caught)

Sorry for the sidetrack Bones, but Starkers brought up an interesting item.  Back when I was in school, administrators and rules were a lot more relaxed than before my time and since.  Our dress code was "You must wear shoes".  That was it.  Skip class?  No one called your parents.  Your teacher gave you a nasty look, and if you missed too much, you failed.  Don't like cafeteria food for lunch?  No sweat - head over to the DQ (Yes they had them in Germany as well) for a burger.

To hear my parents talk, they went to concentration camps, and having raised 4 children, I know that schools are very strict now.  I used to carry a hunting knife all the time (because I could - I did not hunt).  Now?  Prison term.

So when Starker Tee Hees about sneaking a peak at the fairer sex, we were streaking and not breaking any rules (as long as we did not skip class).  All of us wore shoes after all!

Those "kids" were probably your parents. By the time I came around (school in 60s). we were ignoring them as well.

I would say yes dad DOB 32 mom DOB 42  that's 1932 and 1942

that's way way back then..

so far back my day at age 10 could and would go to the store with a pail to buy BEER

damn I am glade we don't let kids buy BEER now days

but then again they could go to the movies with $0.50  see a News rell, Cartoon, and the main feature plus a pop (soda pop), pop corn, and a candy bar

and if they wanted they could stay and watch them all over again for free.. in color and in AC....

You probably put it better.  If you are always on alert - it becomes a way of life.  And you are no longer looking out, just a normal day.

I heard they changed the drinking law in Germany too!  When I was there, if you were old enough to put money on the counter, you were old enough to buy it.

just a theory

maybe it;s a stepping stone for the Government to puss the net to a censorship

so they can block this site (not saying WC) but like YouTube  or other sites they feel that will let you know to much info

EDIT

oops  not puss  PUSH

Slowly but surely by the time our grand kids are old enough to be where we're at most western countries would have gone the way of Big Brother, i.e. a police state. Don't think so. Read the OP. Or become like the terrorist states. Export our own brand of terrorism to them. Bomb trains, blow up the market places with suicide bombers, do it to planes carrying innocent people. You know ...... be just like them. Problem is ... being just like them is defeating the purpose. They say payback is a bitch. True.

What exactly are you supposed to do differently in a day with a severe rating?

I plan on showing up at work in a diaper with a bottle of Jack in one hand and a joint in the other. I'll plant myself in my bosses chair and wait for him. When he asks me 'What the hell do you think you're doing?!',  I'm gonna tell him I just called all of our customers and canceled their contracts because the 'end is nigh'. Then I will announce that I just 'made in my diaper' and ask him if he wants a toke.

Depending on who you are.

Some will:

- put on their tin foil hat

- ignore the stuff and continue with their lives

- make sure to vote for the great people that warn them so often

You're not in your usual dress singing 'Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows, Lemon Drops..."  on a mini trampoline while Jack lobs balloons filled with lime jello at you.

* f*cking smart ass moderator with a phd..there oughta be a law or something....
